Look back at HSU’s history by viewing archival gems from the Library’s Special Collections on Friday, March 28th, 12-2 pm, in the Library Fishbowl, L209. Video selections will feature campus departments, students, and faculty spanning the decades. Many of these films have recently been digitized through the California Light and Sound Project. The final film is an encore screening of the HSU Centennial documentary celebrating the people and spirit of Humboldt State, directed by HSU Alum Benjamin Bettenhausen (‘07, Physics). Come for an afternoon of HSU history through film, and see how much the campus has changed or remained the same over the years. Refreshments will be provided! This is part of the Library's Centennial Showcase Celebration.
Sign up today for Monday evening workshops during Spring Semester. Topics include: Evaluating Websites, Understanding Call Numbers, Finding Scholarly Articles, Using eBooks, and Zotero Citation Management.
Although the option to submit HSU theses online through the Library's Humboldt Digital Scholar (HDS) has been available since 2005 - and about 90% of students submitting theses have done so - it is now mandatory that all theses and projects be submitted digitally via HDS. Take a look - and also get more detail on Humboldt theses and projects.
You don't have to wait for an open lab station. Now you can print over the wireless network to the printers in Library 122 and on the 3rd floor of the BSS building (outside of BSS 313) as easily as if you were in a computer lab. Your C-Card will be charged in the usual way, and the same provisos apply about refunds and making sure to print the correct documents. Install the software and follow the directions to print from your laptop. Need help? See the Help Desk in Library 120.
We've heard your requests and have created a Silent Study Room in L205 on the 2nd floor. This room is intended to provide a silent space to study without the distractions of conversation, cell phones, or other extraneous noise. We ask users to find a study area that is compatible with their particular activity and to respect others who are researching or studying. Thank you and let us know what you think!
Lose your textbook, scarf, or umbrella in the Library? Leave behind your water bottle or coffee mug after studying? Drop an earring or misplace your backpack? All these and more may be found the Library's Lost & Found! See the friendly staff at the Circulation/Checkout Desk to find your stuff.
Are you familiar with HSU Library’s video/DVD collection? We have over 9000 titles including rare documentaries and popular movies. They are arranged by call number on open shelves in the Media Resources Area (MRA), located on the 2nd floor of the Library. MRA has 11 stations containing a variety of video and audio equipment and 6 study carrels with power plugs. HSU faculty, students, and staff can use MRA or Rooms 208, 311, 312, 314 which are equipped with TV/VCR/DVD units and can be reserved online. Faculty and staff can check out an unlimited number of Media materials for one week. Students may check out up to 3 titles for 3 days and community borrowers may check out up to 3 titles overnight. There is a $1/day overdue fine per title. Faculty members may renew videos/DVDs or request extended checkout, if necessary, and are encouraged to reserve videos/DVDs in advance by calling x5656 or sending e-mail to Kumi Watanabe-Schock.
