Borrow a Kindle Fire eBook Reader!
The Humboldt State University Library offers Amazon Kindle Fire tablet computers for checkout to Humboldt State students, faculty and staff. The Kindles come with carrying cases, power adapters, and a preloaded selection of ebook titles purchased from Amazon.com.
What Kindle Titles Are Available?
The Library has purchased a selection of Kindle ebook titles, which support student learning outcomes and/or other campus initiatives and events. The titles selected to date include:
- Book of the Year Selections
- Institute for Student Success/Book Circle Readings
- Diversity Reading Group titles
- Works of featured campus speakers
- Other titles of general interest to the student population
To access the complete list of available titles and check on the availability of one of the devices, enter the phrase “Kindle Fire” in the HSU Library Catalog.
Requesting a Kindle Title for Purchase
Members of the HSU community can submit an online request for an additional ebook title to be added to the Kindle, as long as it supports student learning outcomes and is available from Amazon in the Kindle format. On the request form, specify “Kindle” in the Edition box and select “Other” in the Format box, in addition to supplying the other required information.
Borrowing a Kindle and Loan Period
Kindles may be checked out from the Checkout Desk on the first floor of the Library. They must be returned to a Library employee at the Checkout Desk - to avoid damaging the device, Kindles should not be placed in a book drop. Kindles may be checked out for 3 weeks and are renewable 3 times if no one else has requested to use it.
