Electronic Theses


With the approval of their department, HSU students may deposit their thesis or bound project in Humboldt Digital Scholar. After submitting the required number of copies to the Office for Research, Graduate Studies, and International Programs, you will receive an e-mail notification from the Library with instructions on how to register and submit your thesis or project as a PDF to this open access digital archive.

How to submit your Thesis

The Library is notified by the the Office of Research, Graduate Studies & International Programs when a student intends to submit a thesis to Humboldt Digital Scholar.

The Library will notify the student by email when Humboldt Digital Scholar has been configured to accept their thesis submission.

The steps below outline how to register and submit an electronic copy of your thesis to Humboldt Digital Scholar.

To complete registration in Humboldt Digital Scholar and to upload your thesis, follow these steps:

  • To begin the registration process, visit:
    http://dscholar.humboldt.edu:8080/dspace/register

    You will be asked to supply an email address.
  • " You should then see a screen that tells you: "You have been sent an e-mail containing a special URL, or "token". When you visit this URL, you will need to fill out some simple information. After that, you'll be ready to log into Humboldt Digital Scholar!"

Uploading your thesis or project

  • Now to upload your project or thesis, choose "My Humboldt digital Scholar" from the list of links on the left of the screen. Login using your email address and your newly assigned password.
  • You will see a welcome screen offering you two choices. To submit your project, click the button labeled "Start a New Submission."
  • Select the collection, "Master's Theses". This is probably already selcted but check to be sure. Then click "next".

Describing your thesis or project:

  • First, tell HDS whether your thesis is comprised of parts. Check any statement that applies. When you are done, or if nothing is relevant, click "next."
  • Next, tell HDS who is the author (or authors), who is the thesis advisor, what is the title, and be sure to choose "thesis" under "type". Click "next".
  • Next assign subject keywords and supply an abstract or summary of your thesis, to help people locate it more easily. Fill in funding sources and description as they apply.
  • Now you are ready to upload your file. Use the Browse to locate the file. After you confirm that you have the correct file, click "next".
  • Now verify that the information about your thesis is correct. You can edit it at this point. Then click "next".

Granting a License:

  • You will be asked to authorize to Humboldt Digital Scholar to house and distribute your thesis. This is a non-exclusive license. Please read it and choose to grant or not grant the license.
  • Your submission is complete!
